
Imphal, 08 July (HS): Security forces and Manipur Police carried out a series of successful operations across the state over the last 24 hours, recovering a huge cache of arms and ammunition, arresting four militants and extortionists linked to different insurgent groups, besides seizing a large quantity of suspected ganja, official sources informed on Wednesday.
During a search operation conducted on July 7 in the general area of Tamei and adjoining locations along the IT Road under Tamei Police Station in Tamenglong district, security forces recovered three carbine machine guns with magazines, two .32 pistols with magazines, one AK-47 rifle, three Lathod guns, two barrel-loaded guns, 82 live rounds of ammunition and one bulletproof jacket.
In another operation on the same day, security forces arrested an alleged extortionist, Ningthoujam Roshan Singh (29), from his residence at Tairenpokpi Awang Leikai in Imphal West district. Police said he had been extorting money from vehicles passing through the locality.
In another operation, Manipur Police arrested an active cadre of the PLA/RPF, identified as Keisham Kenedy Singh alias Roger (38), from Utlou area in Bishnupur district for his alleged involvement in extortion activities.
In Jiribam district, security forces arrested an active cadre of the KNF, Md. Abdulla Hussain (22), from the Nungkhal Bridge area. A country-made .32 pistol with a magazine and six live rounds were recovered from his possession.
Security forces also arrested an active cadre of KCP (Nongdrenkhomba), Moirangthem Thoiba Singh (30), from Sugnu Makha Leikai in Kakching district.
Meanwhile, Manipur Police recovered 17 packets of suspected ganja weighing approximately 221 kg during a search operation at Pungdongbam Awang Leikai under Lamlai Police Station in Imphal East district. Further investigation is underway in all the cases.----------
