Imphal, 03 July (HS): Manipur Police and security forces carried out a series of successful operations across the state, leading to the recovery of a large cache of arms, explosives and military equipment, while two persons were arrested in separate cases.

During a search operation at Wakha Ching under Porompat Police Station in Imphal East district on July 2, police recovered two .32 pistols, a 12-bore pump action SBBL, one double-barrel gun, one single-barrel gun, 36 hand grenades, three grenade detonators, one Lathode shell, two 2-inch mortar HE bombs, five tube launchers, two pistol magazines, 86 live rounds of ammunition, 20 barrel cartridges, nine empty 7.62 mm cartridge cases and military fatigues, including jackets and boots.

In another operation at Chaljang village under Molcham Police Station in Chandel district, security forces seized an AK-56 assault rifle, five magazines, 10 single-bore rifles, five Baofeng radio sets with chargers and two 12 mm gauge shotguns.

A separate search in the foothills of Kumbi Setupur near Kumbi Sagolpat in Bishnupur district resulted in the recovery of an M-16 rifle with magazine, a 9 mm pistol with magazine, three SBBL guns, one Pompi, five Pompi bombs, four No. 36 HE hand grenades, 32 live rounds of ammunition, three INSAS magazines and other miscellaneous items.

Meanwhile, security forces demolished two bunkers each at Thoyee village/Mahadev Top and Jalenbung village under Litan Police Station in Ukhrul district as part of ongoing area domination operations.

In a separate development, security forces arrested an active RPF/PLA cadre, identified as Athokpam Joychandra Singh alias Ibungcha (45), from Sanjenbam Khullen under Lamlai Police Station in Imphal East district.

On the same day, Manipur Police also arrested Waikhom Michael Singh (24) from Keishampat area in connection with a house-breaking and theft case involving 15 bags of rice stolen from the godown of Keishamthong High School. Police said further investigation is underway to ascertain his involvement in other burglary cases and recover the stolen property.------------
