New Delhi, 20 July (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday called for a productive and constructive Monsoon Session of Parliament, urging lawmakers to engage in meaningful discussions backed by facts rather than disruptions. Addressing the media before the commencement of the session, the Prime Minister said Parliament should serve as a platform for healthy debate aimed at advancing national welfare.

Drawing a comparison between the rainy season and the Monsoon Session, Modi said both should be proactive and productive for the benefit of the country.

“Just as a good monsoon contributes to the well-being of the nation, a productive Parliament session helps strengthen democracy and promote public welfare. We hope this Monsoon Session leads to meaningful outcomes for the country,” he said.

The Prime Minister stressed that strong arguments supported by facts should guide parliamentary proceedings. He said there should be no need for unnecessary disruptions when issues can be debated through reasoned discussion.

“Where there are strong arguments and strong facts, there is no need for a storm. Every voice should find space in Parliament,” Modi said.

Highlighting India's recent achievements, the Prime Minister said the country had witnessed several milestones over the past month across multiple sectors, including science, technology and space, bringing pride to every Indian.

Referring to the rapid growth of India's private space sector, PM Modi praised aerospace startup Skyroot Aerospace for its recent achievements, describing them as a reflection of the country's expanding technological capabilities and entrepreneurial spirit.

He noted that the average age of the team at Skyroot Aerospace was only 28 years, saying the accomplishment demonstrated the limitless potential of India's youth. In an apparent political swipe at Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Modi remarked that he was referring to 28-year-old youth, not a 56-year-old youth, without naming anyone directly.

The Prime Minister also referred to India's recent progress in human spaceflight and private space exploration, saying the country's growing presence in the global space sector reflected the aspirations and talent of its young innovators.

The Monsoon Session of Parliament, which began on Monday, will continue until August 13 and is scheduled to hold 19 sittings. The government is expected to introduce several significant pieces of legislation during the session.

Among the key bills on the government's agenda are the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, the Viksit Bharat Shiksha Adhishthan Bill, amendments to the Income-tax law, the Supreme Court (Amendment) Bill, 2026, and the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Amendment) Bill, 2026.

The government also plans to introduce amendments to the Registration of Births and Deaths Act and the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act.

The session is expected to witness intense political exchanges, with the government seeking passage of its legislative agenda while Opposition parties prepare to raise several national issues, including education, governance and other matters of public importance.
