New Delhi, 20 July (H.S.): Proceedings of both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned until 12:30 pm on Monday after persistent protests by Opposition members disrupted the functioning of Parliament on the first day of the Monsoon Session.

Even after the Houses resumed proceedings following the initial adjournment, normal functioning could not continue due to continuous sloganeering and protests by Opposition MPs. Eventually, both Houses were adjourned again until 12:30 pm.

When the Lok Sabha resumed, Chairperson Dilip Saikia informed the House that the Speaker had not approved any adjournment motions. The Question Hour was then taken up, and concerned Union ministers placed replies to listed questions on the floor of the House.

However, Opposition members continued raising slogans and creating disruptions. Presiding Officer Dilip Saikia repeatedly appealed to the protesting members to return to their seats and allow the House to function smoothly.

He said that Parliament could not function through sloganeering and urged all members to cooperate in conducting the proceedings. Despite the continued uproar, the Lok Sabha was adjourned until 12:30 pm.

Meanwhile, in the Rajya Sabha, Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan attempted to continue the proceedings after the House reconvened. However, due to persistent protests by Opposition members, the Upper House also had to be adjourned within a few minutes until 12:30 pm.
