New Delhi, 20 July (H.S.): Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Monday appealed to all Members of Parliament to extend positive cooperation and ensure constructive participation for the smooth functioning of the eighth (Monsoon) Session of the 18th Lok Sabha, which begins today.
Emphasising the importance of parliamentary proceedings, Birla said, “Parliament is the supreme temple of democracy, and this session provides an important opportunity for meaningful discussions and effective legislative action on issues related to public welfare and national interest.”
The Lok Sabha Speaker expressed hope that all members would actively participate in the proceedings while respecting the spirit of the Constitution, parliamentary traditions and the dignity of the House.
It may be noted that a meeting of the Lok Sabha Business Advisory Committee was held at the Parliament complex on Sunday evening. On Monday morning, Speaker Birla shared a picture of the meeting on social media platform X and issued an appeal to MPs for cooperation during the session.
In his message marking the beginning of the Monsoon Session, Birla said the recent rainfall in Delhi had brought renewed energy and freshness to the environment. He stated that Parliament represents the highest expression of the aspirations, hopes and trust of the people and is ready to welcome all elected representatives.
The Speaker said that ensuring maximum legislative output and completing other parliamentary responsibilities is the collective duty of all members. This, he added, would strengthen public confidence and enhance the dignity of democratic institutions.
Birla urged all MPs to work together to make the session a platform for meaningful debates, public-oriented decisions and discussions conducted in accordance with the highest standards of parliamentary decorum.
