New Delhi, July 19 (HS): The Technology Development Board (TDB) under the Department of Science and Technology (DST) on Sunday congratulated Skyroot Aerospace Pvt. Ltd. on the successful flight of its Vikram-1 mission, describing it as a historic achievement for India's private space sector and a major boost to the country's indigenous space technology capabilities.

In a statement, the Board said the success of Vikram-1 marks a significant milestone in the identification, promotion and commercialisation of indigenous technologies and strengthens India's global standing in innovation and space technology.

The TDB recalled that Skyroot Aerospace was honoured with the National Technology Startup Award in 2022 on the occasion of National Technology Day for developing indigenous launch vehicle technologies. The award was presented by Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh.

The Board noted that the company was recognised for its contribution to developing indigenous cryogenic, liquid and solid propulsion technologies for the small satellite launch market. It said the successful Vikram-1 mission demonstrates the long-term benefits of identifying and supporting promising Indian technology startups at an early stage.

TDB Secretary Rajesh Kumar Pathak said Skyroot Aerospace's journey from a National Technology Startup Award winner to achieving a landmark milestone in India's private space programme is a matter of pride for the country and reflects the strength of India's innovation ecosystem.

He also said Skyroot Aerospace has submitted a proposal to the TDB under the Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) Fund, which is currently under consideration.

The Board reiterated its commitment to promoting the development and commercialisation of indigenous technologies and innovation-driven enterprises in strategic sectors, including aerospace, defence, healthcare, clean energy, biotechnology, advanced manufacturing and digital technologies.

It said Skyroot Aerospace's achievement demonstrates that timely institutional recognition, policy support and sustained collaboration can enable Indian innovation-led enterprises to attain global success.
