Guwahati, 12 July (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday said the Opposition had earlier criticised the Assam Police's aggressive crackdown on drugs and had also questioned judicial encounters. However, he claimed that political parties are now on the same page with the government on the issue.

The Chief Minister said that if the Opposition had extended its support five years ago, Assam Police could have achieved even more significant success in its fight against drug trafficking.

Emphasising that search operations alone cannot eliminate the drug menace, Sarma urged people to actively cooperate with law enforcement agencies. He said public participation is essential to eradicate the social evil of drugs and make Assam free from narcotics. Chief Minister was speaking to reporters at Nalbari on Sunday.-----------
