Chennai, 12 July (H.S.):Legendary music composer Ilaiyaraaja on Sunday paid a heartfelt tribute to veteran playback singer S. Janaki, describing her death as an immeasurable loss to Indian music and recalling her as an artist whose dedication to perfection remained unmatched throughout her illustrious career.

In an emotional video message shared on his official X account, the composer said he was deeply shocked by the news of Janaki's passing. Calling her Janaki Amma, Ilaiyaraaja said her death was not only a personal loss for him but also a moment of profound grief for millions of music lovers who grew up listening to her timeless songs.

Reflecting on their decades-long musical association, Ilaiyaraaja said Janaki possessed a rare combination of extraordinary talent, discipline and emotional depth that made every song she rendered unforgettable. He said no other singer could truly be compared with her because she consistently elevated every composition with her unique voice and unwavering commitment.

The composer also spoke about the hardships Janaki endured in her personal life, saying she silently carried immense sorrow while continuing to bring joy to audiences through her music. I always worked hard to achieve the musical expression I wanted in every composition. Janaki Amma matched that commitment with equal determination and would continue refining the song until it reached perfection. In many ways, I can say she surpassed even my expectations, he said.

Describing her death as an irreplaceable loss, Ilaiyaraaja said Indian music had lost one of its brightest and most gifted voices.
