
Nalbari (Assam), 12 July (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday participated in the state's large-scale narcotics destruction drive at the 14th Assam Police Battalion campus in Nalbari, where seized narcotics worth ₹472.51 crore were destroyed. The Chief Minister also personally operated a road roller to crush illegally seized liquor confiscated by the Assam Police and Excise Department.
Describing the campaign as a strong step towards a drug-free Assam, Dr. Sarma said the statewide destruction drive reflects the government's unwavering commitment to eliminating narcotics and other intoxicants from the state.
Addressing the programme, the Chief Minister said Assam Police has registered over 3,300 cases under the NDPS Act as part of its sustained crackdown on drug trafficking. He added that during the last five years, the state police have seized drugs valued at ₹3,227 crore, dealing a major blow to narcotics networks operating in the region.
The Chief Minister noted that the destruction programme was conducted simultaneously across all districts of Assam, highlighting the coordinated efforts of Assam Police in ensuring the safe disposal of seized narcotics and illicit substances.
The state-level campaign forms part of the Assam government's continuing Assam Against Drugs initiative aimed at dismantling drug trafficking networks and protecting society from the menace of substance abuse.-----------
