Hooghly, 01 July (H.S.): A 34-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by having her throat slit following a strained relationship in Pandua of Hooghly district. The victim's family has accused her lover of committing the crime. The police have registered a case and launched a search for the accused.
According to the police and family sources, the victim, Wahida Khatun (34), was killed at around 11 p.m. on Tuesday. Her sister, Farida Bibi, lodged a written complaint with Pandua Police Station, alleging that Gopal Kshetrapal entered Wahida's house late at night and slit her throat with a sharp sickle near the toilet before fleeing the spot.
Family members rushed the critically injured Wahida to Pandua Rural Hospital, where doctors declared her dead. On Wednesday, police sent the body to Imambara District Hospital in Chinsurah for post-mortem examination.
Farida alleged that Wahida, a native of Akbarpur under Gurap Police Station, had been in a relationship with Gopal, who is also a resident of the same area, for nearly three years. According to the family, Wahida had recently been trying to end the relationship, which allegedly led to the murder.
The victim is survived by two daughters, aged seven and five. Demanding the harshest punishment for the accused, Farida said the family had repeatedly advised Wahida to end the relationship and has now appealed to the police to ensure justice.
The police have begun a search for the accused, and further investigation is underway.
