Silchar, 01 July (HS): Cachar Police, in a joint operation with the Assam Rifles, seized heroin and Yaba tablets worth an estimated ₹9 crore during a raid at Tolengram Ghat on the Barak River under Lakhipur subdivision on Wednesday.

Acting on specific intelligence, the operation was led by Lakhipur Sub-Divisional Police Officer Prithviraj Rajkhowa. Police intercepted a motorboat travelling from Manipur to Cachar and recovered 45 soap cases containing 535 grams of heroin from the luggage of two women passengers. The contraband had been concealed beneath dried chillies inside two bags.

During the search, police also recovered 30,000 Yaba tablets weighing around 3.5 kg. The total value of the seized narcotics has been estimated at approximately ₹9 crore.

The two arrested women, both residents of Tamenglong district in Manipur, are suspected of trafficking the contraband into Cachar for sale.
