Kochi, 01 July (H.S.):Actor Ansiba Hasan has welcomed the Ernakulam District Sessions Court’s direction to register a case against actor Tiny Tom over her complaint alleging communal remarks and insults to her dignity, describing the order as a victory for truth.
Responding through social media soon after the court’s order, Ansiba shared an image of the Kerala High Court and posted the message, “Sathyameva Jayathe” (Truth Alone Triumphs), without making any further comments.
The Sessions Court directed the Kadavanthra police to register a case against Tiny Tom and conduct a comprehensive investigation into all the allegations raised by the actor, including charges relating to outraging the modesty of a woman and making objectionable communal remarks.
The order came after the court found serious shortcomings in the police’s earlier decision not to register an FIR. The Kadavanthra police had informed the court that there was insufficient evidence to initiate criminal proceedings against Tiny Tom.
Rejecting that stand, the court observed that the police report was incomplete and held that there was prima facie material warranting a criminal investigation. It also dismissed the police’s conclusion that the alleged reference to Ansiba as a “jihadi” had been made merely in jest.
The court noted that the complaint was supported by preliminary evidence, including the statement of actor Neena Kurup, who was then a member of the executive committee of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA). Her testimony has emerged as a significant piece of evidence in the case.
Meanwhile, Kochi City Police Commissioner said a case would be registered against Tiny Tom immediately after the police receive a copy of the Sessions Court’s order.
The Commissioner said the police had conducted an inquiry based on the complaint that was initially received. Referring to the disputes within the actors’ association, he said internal differences were for the organisation to resolve, while the police would proceed in accordance with the court’s directions and the law.
