New Delhi, 10 June (H.S.):
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday emphasized that public service is the highest benchmark of good governance, stating that only those who work with dedication, humility and a strong sense of duty can earn the trust of the people.
Sharing a Sanskrit aphorism on X, the Prime Minister underscored the importance of committed leadership and citizen-centric governance.
The verse shared by Modi reads:
“Sadanuraktaprakritih Prajapalanatatparah।
Vinitatma Hi Nripatir Bhuyasi Shriyam Ashnute॥”
In his message, the Prime Minister wrote, “Public service is the greatest measure of good governance. Only a person who works continuously with humility, dedication and a sense of duty can earn the trust of the people.”
The aphorism has been taken from the renowned ancient treatise on statecraft, Kamandakiya Nitisara (Canto 1, Verse 24).
Explaining its essence, the verse conveys that a ruler who always remains devoted to his people, works tirelessly for their welfare and protection, and conducts himself with humility and self-discipline, ultimately attains great prosperity, success and glory.
The Prime Minister’s message came as a reflection on the values of responsible leadership, stressing that public trust is built through consistent service, commitment to citizens’ welfare and adherence to ethical governance.
