Kolkata, 22 May (H.S.): Vikram Shaw, the snack vendor from Jhargram who gained national attention after serving “jhalmuri” to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during an election campaign rally, has alleged that he is now receiving repeated death threats from abroad, including Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Shaw said he has been receiving threatening phone calls and video calls over the past few days, during which callers allegedly issued serious threats and attempted to intimidate him.

According to Shaw, the calls include abusive language and repeated warnings of being harmed or killed. “They are calling me from Pakistan and threatening to blow me up with bombs,” he alleged.

He further claimed that some callers also make video calls showing weapons to create fear and pressure. Shaw said even when he does not answer calls, they continue to come repeatedly, and similar threatening messages have been received on WhatsApp.

He said callers sometimes begin conversations with religious greetings before issuing threats, which has further alarmed him and his family.

Shaw maintained that while the callers have not directly referred to his interaction with the Prime Minister, the threats began after his shop came into the public spotlight following Modi’s visit.

He also claimed that people calling from Bangladesh have made similar threatening remarks questioning his safety and survival.

The police have initiated an investigation into the matter and security has been deployed around Shaw’s shop. Authorities are also monitoring the origin of the calls.

Shaw has appealed to the central government and state authorities to ensure safety for him and his family amid ongoing threats.
