Guwahati, 22 May (HS): In a major breakthrough, Basistha Police arrested seven alleged dacoits from different parts of Assam during a coordinated operation conducted across Hajo, Nalbari, Adabari and Namile. Police said the gang had been involved in a series of criminal activities and had allegedly spread terror in several areas of the state.

The arrested accused have been identified as Abdullah Ali, Jakir Ali, Ali, Chand Mohammad Ali, Mostafa Ahmed, Kafiluddin Ali and Badshah Ali. According to police sources, the gang was reportedly involved in cattle theft, dacoity and other organised crimes. Investigators have also received information linking the group to ATM loot cases.

Police stated that the accused were allegedly involved in several criminal incidents in the past. CCTV footage related to cattle theft incidents had reportedly captured members of the gang during their operations.

During the crackdown, Basistha Police seized a four-wheeler without a registration number plate, suspected to have been used in criminal activities. Police also recovered ropes, sharp weapons, cash and four mobile phones believed to have been used by the gang.

All the arrested accused are currently being interrogated and police said further investigation is underway to ascertain their involvement in other criminal cases across the state.----------
