Bhubaneswar, 22 May (H.S.) : Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik on Friday paid heartfelt tributes to renowned social reformer Raja Ram Mohan Roy on his birth anniversary, describing him as a visionary who laid the foundation for a progressive and enlightened society.

In a social media post, Patnaik said Raja Ram Mohan Roy championed women’s emancipation, pioneered modern education and strongly opposed religious orthodoxy and social evils.

“Humble tributes to the great social reformer Raja Ram Mohan Roy on his birth anniversary. He was a visionary who championed women’s emancipation, pioneered modern education, and fought against religious orthodoxy. His legacy of enlightenment, reform and crusade against religious bigotry will continue to enlighten us in building a progressive society,” Patnaik stated.
