Guwahati, 22 May (HS): Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has successfully completed a major curve realignment work in the Simaluguri–Moranhat section under the Tinsukia Division, enabling the permanent removal of a Permanent Speed Restriction (PSR) and enhancing train operations in the region.
The NFR CPRO Kapinjal Kishor Sharma said that the infrastructure improvement involved conversion of an existing 3-degree curve into a smoother 2-degree curve through cutting and reconnection of tracks along with shifting of Overhead Equipment (OHE) masts and wires. The work was carried out during a traffic block period with coordinated efforts from the Engineering, Operating and Traction Distribution (TRD) departments.
According to NFR, the existing 3-degree curve was connected with a newly aligned 2-degree curve laid over a fresh formation of nearly 500 metres. The project also involved a maximum track slew of 7.7 metres and was completed with a strong focus on precision and operational safety.
To ensure smooth train movement after completion of the work, machine tamping using a Duomatic machine was undertaken before the passage of the first train through the section.
With the successful execution of the project, the existing Permanent Speed Restriction of 95 kmph over a 500-metre stretch has now been permanently removed and the section has been cleared for Maximum Permissible Speed (MPS) of 110 kmph. The development is expected to improve train mobility, enhance punctuality and ensure smoother and more efficient rail operations.
NFR stated that it remains committed to continuous infrastructure modernization, strengthening safety standards and improving operational efficiency to provide faster, safer and more reliable railway services across its network.----------
