Palakkad, 22 May (H.S.):Former Kerala Minister and senior CPM leader M.B. Rajesh has strongly criticized the alleged police action against Dalit families facing eviction at Pariyathukavu in Malayidamthuruth, Ernakulam district, accusing the newly formed UDF government of displaying insensitivity towards marginalized communities.

In a sharply worded Facebook post, Rajesh alleged that the police crackdown on Dalit residents came soon after V.D. Satheesan assumed office as Chief Minister. He claimed the incident reflected what he described as the government's true character and accused the administration of targeting vulnerable communities.

Rajesh also linked his criticism to the recent political controversy surrounding the Chief Minister’s name and took aim at what he called sections of media and cultural groups allegedly supporting the UDF government. In a sarcastic remark, he said the incident occurred just days after debates surrounding Satheesan’s identity and public image had gained attention.

According to Rajesh, the same land dispute and court-related issues had existed during the previous Left Democratic Front (LDF) government as well. However, he argued that the police had not acted in a similar manner then and claimed that the LDF administration had approached the matter with restraint and humanitarian consideration.

He alleged that the change in government had quickly exposed what he termed a new political reality for ordinary people, particularly women and children from economically weaker backgrounds. Rajesh said many would not have expected such developments to emerge so soon after the transition of power.

The CPM leader further argued that the UDF government should not allow political triumph after returning to power to translate into actions that adversely affect the poor and marginalized. Instead, he urged the government to adopt what he described as a more humane and socially sensitive approach in dealing with such issues.

Rajesh also questioned the silence of organizations, social groups, and individuals whom he alleged had supported the UDF during the elections. He specifically asked whether those who publicly backed the new government had responded to the developments in Pariyathukavu.

Reaffirming the Left’s political position, Rajesh said the Left movement had historically stood with families facing eviction and asserted that it would continue to support them through public protests and political action.
