West Burdwan, 22 May (H.S.): Four contract workers were injured in an explosion at a private steel plant in the Bamnara industrial area of Kanksa on Friday, officials and workers said. All the injured have been admitted to a private hospital.

According to workers, a sudden explosion occurred in a furnace inside the factory while several contractual labourers were working nearby. The blast caused flames and hot materials to erupt, leaving the workers seriously injured.

Factory sources said that the workers were engaged in routine work near the furnace when a loud explosion took place. Hearing the blast, other employees and security personnel rushed to the spot and rescued the injured workers. They were immediately taken to a private hospital in Rajbandh for treatment.

Hospital sources said all four injured workers are under medical observation.

The exact cause of the explosion is yet to be ascertained and an investigation has been initiated, officials added.
