Firozabad,

22 May (HS): A 48-year-old bus driver was killed and around 20 passengers were

injured after a double-decker bus collided with an overturned sand-laden truck

on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway early Friday, according to police. The collision

occurred about 2.30 a.m. around Kilometre 46, beneath the Matsena Police

Station area. According to authorities, the sleeper bus was on its way to

Gurugram from Kanpur when it collided with the dumper, which had turned upside

down after striking the barrier. The accident caused a short circuit, which

ignited the bus, prompting passengers to shatter the window glass and jump out.

The deceased driver was identified as Shambhu, a Kanpur native from the Bari

neighborhood.

Superintendent

of Police (City) Ravi Shankar Prasad and City Magistrate Vinod Kumar Pandey

told reporters that there were around 40 to 45 passengers aboard the bus at the

time of the event. According to the SP, twenty people were hurt in the

incident, with seven badly injured being taken to Firozabad hospital and the

rest being transferred to Saifai. It took nearly three hours for firefighters

to put the fire under control. The driver's body was submitted for a postmortem
