Guwahati, 22 May (HS): Political reactions intensified in Assam on Friday over the delay in the Congress Legislature Party’s decision on the Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, with several BJP leaders launching sharp attacks against the Congress.

Union Minister of State Pabitra Margherita alleged that the Congress has now transformed into a “Miya party” and claimed that even the party’s legislative leader would eventually be a “Miya MLA.” Commenting on the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), he said that people across the country have welcomed the move and expressed support for its implementation.

BJP MLA Manab Deka also mocked the Congress over the issue, remarking that “one Miya will emerge from among many Miyas.” Another BJP leader, Chakradhar Gogoi, alleged that the Congress has now turned into the Muslim League.

Reacting to the criticism, former Congress MP and BJP MLA Pradyut Bordoloi took a jibe at the Congress party and said he had heard that Congress leaders were suffering from “mental conflict,” adding that it would be better if they arrived at a decision soon.

Meanwhile, BJP MLA Prasanta Phukan also targeted the Congress, stating that the party was facing “multi-organ failure politically” due to its inability to promptly decide on the Leader of Opposition in the Assembly.---------
