
Guwahati, 22 May (HS): A massive cache of cash and gold ornaments was reportedly recovered from the residence of arrested ACS officer Lachit Das during a late-night search operation carried out by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption.
According to sources, investigators seized nearly ₹50 lakh in cash along with more than 500 grams of gold ornaments from the residence of the tainted official after conducting an extensive search that continued till the early hours of Friday.
Lachit Das, serving as Additional Director in the Directorate of Land Records, was caught red-handed on Thursday while allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹45,000. Vigilance officials had laid a trap following complaints regarding alleged corruption linked to official work.
The latest recovery has intensified the investigation, with officials now examining the source of the seized cash and valuables. The arrest and subsequent raids have triggered strong reactions, raising serious concerns over corruption within government departments.----------
