Kolkata, 22 May (H.S.): Five BJP workers were injured after a group of miscreants allegedly attacked them following a dispute over an old social media post in West Bengal’s Nabadwip town of Nadia district late on Thursday night.

The incident took place in the Pirtala area, where tensions reportedly escalated after an argument linked to a post circulated on social media. BJP leaders alleged that the attack was politically motivated and accused Trinamool Congress supporters of being behind the violence.

The injured workers were rescued in a bloodied condition and taken to Nabadwip State General Hospital. Two of them — Akshay Biswas and Gopal Karmakar — were later shifted to Shaktinagar District Hospital after their condition deteriorated. Two others remain under treatment, while another injured person was discharged after primary medical care.

The police said a written complaint has been lodged at Nabadwip police station against six accused persons. CCTV footage from the area is being examined and an investigation has begun.

According to the victims, the dispute initially began over a social media post but later turned into a targeted assault allegedly driven by political rivalry. BJP supporters gathered at the hospital after the incident and demanded immediate arrest of the accused.

BJP leader Tanmoy Kundu said he had attended a local programme in Ward No. 16 along with party worker Akshay Biswas. While returning home, he noticed several youths standing near the Pirtala crossing. He alleged that some of them fled after seeing him, and moments later he found Akshay and another youth seriously injured.

Kundu claimed the injured workers identified several accused persons, including individuals named Gobinda and Bittu Singh. He said photographs of the suspects had been handed over to police.

The police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
