Shillong, 21 May (HS): Meghalaya has positioned itself among the fastest-growing states in the country, with Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma highlighting strong economic indicators cited in the Client Associates State of Indian States 2026 Report.
The report noted that Meghalaya achieved a 15.3% nominal GDP growth over the past five years, while the state’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) witnessed a sharp 97% increase between FY21 and FY26. It also pointed to a fourfold rise in capital investments since 2018.
Sharing the findings on May 21, Sangma attributed the progress to the government’s continuous push towards infrastructure expansion, improved connectivity, tourism development, power sector growth, livelihood generation, entrepreneurship and governance reforms.
The Chief Minister stated that the achievement reflects not only policy initiatives but also the resilience and aspirations of the people of Meghalaya. He reiterated the government’s resolve to build a stronger, inclusive and future-ready state.
The report has placed Meghalaya among the leading state economies in India, underlining the northeastern state’s rapid economic transformation in recent years.-----------
