
Thane,
21 May (HS): Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has announced financial
support of Rs 10 lakh to the familes of Firefighter Sagar Suryakant Shinde (45)
and security guard Kalu Shankar Gadekar (55) who died in the fire in vegetable
mark in Gaondevi Market in Naupada, Thane. The major fire engulfed 154 shops in
the fire on Thursday morning. Shinde also announced Rs 1 lakh each for the
injured Sujit Pashte (45) and Sameer Jadhav (40), who received burn injuries
while dousing the flames and are being treated.
The
announcement came after Shinde held a meeting with Thane Mayor Sharmila
Pimpolkar, MLA Naresh Mhaske and Commissioner Saurabh Rao.
Shinde
said that 155 stall owners in the market will be rehabilitated in the same
place. Shinde instructed the civic authorities to find temporary alternative
space for the vegetable stall owners. The process relating to their
rehabilitation will be started on June 1, 2026.
Shinde is also Guardian Minister of Thane district.
