Guwahati, 21 May (HS): In a shocking incident that has raised serious questions over policing and public safety in Guwahati, a gang of five miscreants allegedly dressed in army uniforms carried out a daring daylight robbery in front of the Radisson Blu Hotel Guwahati on Thursday.
According to reports, the robbers intercepted a group of five businessmen on the busy roadside and looted cash amounting to ₹21.85 lakh along with five mobile phones before fleeing from the spot. The entire incident reportedly took place in broad daylight in the Jalukbari area, triggering panic among local residents and traders.
The audacious nature of the crime, carried out openly on one of Guwahati’s major roads, has exposed glaring security and surveillance failures of the city police. Questions are now being raised over how armed miscreants wearing fake army uniforms could execute such a major robbery and escape without immediate interception.
The businessmen were reportedly travelling with the cash when the gang stopped them and carried out the robbery. Soon after the incident, police teams reached the spot and launched an investigation. However, no arrests had been reported till the filing of this report.
The incident has intensified concerns over deteriorating law and order in Guwahati, particularly in areas considered sensitive and highly monitored.-----------
