New Delhi, 30 April (H.S.):
Three children allegedly drowned in a pond at the Sector‑24 golf course premises in Dwarka, Delhi, early this morning while they were taking a bath. Police suspect that the children may have waded into the deeper part of the pond and drowned. The bodies of all three children have been recovered from the pond, and police, with the help of locals, are now trying to identify them.
According to the police, a PCR call was received at Dwarka Sector‑23 police station at around 7:07 a.m., reporting that three children had gone under in the pond at the Sector‑24 golf course. The station in‑charge rushed to the spot with a team, and the fire department and other concerned agencies were called in. After a brief struggle, all three children were pulled out of the pond.
Police officers said the deceased children were between roughly eight and ten years old. Their clothes were found on the bank of the pond, and it is believed that they had entered the water with the intention of bathing. The authorities stated that, based on the preliminary investigation, this appears to be a tragic accident. No missing‑child report has been registered at any police station so far, and CCTV footage from the surrounding area is currently being examined.
The incident has cast a pall of grief over the locality. Residents have demanded that security arrangements around open water bodies and ponds be strengthened so that such tragedies can be avoided in the future.
Dwarka District Deputy Commissioner of Police Kushal Pal Singh said the investigation is ongoing and that the families of the children will be informed once their identities are established.
