Nagpur, 30 Apr (HS): A letter saying a ‘Radioactive’

material has been dropped near RSS Headquarters in Nagpur’s Mahal and Reshimbag

area in Nagpur, swung police into action mode. The letter received by Nagpur’s

Police Commissioner was not signed. The letter also mentioned name of Metro

Orange Line and Aqua Line and some buses, where the highly radioactive ‘Cesium-137’

powder has been placed.

The man-made isotope produced by nuclear fission

with a 30-year half-life emitting strong beta/gamma rays, can cause serious

impact on human and animal life. The letter also says that the radioactive

material was procured from a cancer hospital.

The police along with experts from Anti-Terrorist

Squad, NDRF and experts from Atomic Energy Department investigated all the

places mentioned in the letter. Police heaved a sigh of relief as nothing

objectionable was found by them.

Security in Nagpur has been beefed up and

investigation into the mischievous letter has been initiated.
