New Delhi, 30 April (H.S.):

The Delhi High Court reprimanded the Delhi government for delays in providing textbooks to government school students. Justice Sachin issued notice on a contempt petition, with next hearing scheduled for September 30.

During hearing, Delhi government's counsel assured court that all government school students would receive textbooks before summer vacations. Court recorded the statement, directing response and status report submission.

Social Jurist organisation filed the contempt petition. Counsel Ashok Agarwal argued despite government assurances, 2026-27 academic session students remain without textbooks. Deliberate violation of prior court orders occurred. Government assured April 2024 timely educational materials supply; academic year begins April 1.

Petition states textbook absence disrupts studies, widening gap between government and private school students. Summer vacations commence post-May 9. Such delays violate Right to Education Act.
