Kolkata, 30 April (H.S.): Following the conclusion of the second phase of polling in West Bengal, demands for re-polling have been raised from multiple booths. Applications have been submitted to the Election Commission seeking re-polling in a total of 77 booths across four assembly constituencies. The Commission will take a final decision after completing the scrutiny process.

The responsibility for overseeing this scrutiny has been assigned to Special Observer Subrata Gupta. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar personally instructed him to monitor the process.

All four constituencies demanding re-polling are located in South 24 Parganas district. Three of them fall under the Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha constituency, represented by Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee.

The Election Commission has initiated scrutiny based on applications filed by candidates. Subrata Gupta has been directed to remain present during scrutiny in Falta, Magrahat and Sonarpur. Following the directive, he has already reached Diamond Harbour.

According to sources in the Chief Electoral Officer’s office, the 77 booths include 32 in Falta, 29 in Diamond Harbour, 3 in Budge Budge, and 13 in Magrahat Purba Assembly constituencies. Among these, Falta, Diamond Harbour and Budge Budge fall under the Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha seat, while Magrahat Purba comes under the Jaynagar Lok Sabha constituency.
