Murshidabad, 30 April (H.S.): Reacting to the exit poll projections in West Bengal, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said that the opposition vote has been divided, which could significantly impact the final results.

Speaking on Thursday, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, the Congress candidate from Berhampore Assembly constituency, said, “Overall, opposition parties have received more votes. There was a strong anti-government sentiment, but the opposition votes got split. All votes did not consolidate behind a single party. The opposition included multiple parties like Congress, CPI(M), and BJP. It remains to be seen whether the opposition can effectively challenge Mamata Banerjee. A significant portion of opposition votes has gone to the BJP.”

Notably, various exit polls for West Bengal have projected differing outcomes. Most surveys indicate an edge for the BJP, though they also point to a closely contested fight. In the 294-member Assembly, 148 seats are required for a majority. While several polls show the BJP reaching or crossing this mark, some indicate a lead for the Trinamool Congress. The final results will be declared on May 4.
