
Morigaon (Assam), 16 April (HS): The Tiwa tribe’s traditional agrarian festival, Lakhimi Adra (Lukhumi Yangli), will be celebrated from April 22 to 24 with a three-day programme at Amsang Pinung in Umswai area of Karbi Anglong district.
Observed once every five years, the festival holds deep cultural and agricultural significance for the Tiwa community. Preparations for the grand event are already underway, with villagers actively engaged in final arrangements.
The organising committee has extended invitations to people from all sections of society, including Tiwas residing in both hill and plain areas, to participate in the celebrations.
The announcement was made during a press conference held at the historic Gobha Devaraja Charibhai Devshal Shivsthan in Jagiroad. Prominent attendees included Gobha Raja Deepsing Devaraja, president of the Gobha Devaraja Rajdarbar Management Committee Nagen Konwar, secretary Jursing Bordoloi, along with members Dwipen Konwar and Amar Bordoloi, and local representatives Limching Poma and Sanjai Mashlai from Amsang Pinung village.
Organisers stated that this year’s festival is expected to be vibrant and grand, with preparations now in the final stage.------------
