Kolkata, 16 April (H.S.) : The ruling Trinamool Congress on Thursday approached the Election Commission alleging that former विधायक Humayun Kabir violated the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) ahead of the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections.

In an email sent to the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, the party accused Kabir—who has floated his own political outfit to contest the elections—of making objectionable and personal remarks against several senior TMC leaders. The complaint was accompanied by a video of a press conference in which Kabir is allegedly heard making such statements, including references to party national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee.

According to the TMC, such remarks constitute a clear violation of the MCC, which prohibits candidates from making personal attacks or statements that are indecent or against public morality. The party further claimed that Kabir’s statements attract penal provisions under Sections 356, 351, and 174 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.

The party has urged the Election Commission to issue a show-cause notice to Kabir, direct the concerned agencies to register an FIR, and initiate stringent action against him.

Earlier, the TMC had released a video alleging that Kabir entered into a ₹1,000 crore deal with the Bharatiya Janata Party to split minority votes in the remaining phases of the elections. Kabir, however, dismissed the video as fake and claimed it was generated using artificial intelligence. The BJP has also denied any such arrangement.

Following the controversy, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, led by Asaduddin Owaisi, announced its decision to withdraw from its declared alliance with Kabir and his party.
