Bhubaneswar, 16 April (H.S.): The intense summer heat continues to grip Odisha, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning of a further rise in day temperatures by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over the next two days.
The Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar has issued a heatwave alert for several districts located in the western and interior parts of the state. The districts under alert include Bolangir, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Boudh, Kandhamal, Sonepur, and Sambalpur.
According to the weather department, heatwave conditions are expected to intensify in these regions, prompting authorities to urge residents to take precautionary measures. The advisory highlights the need to avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, remain hydrated, and take necessary steps to prevent heat-related illnesses.
In addition to rising temperatures, coastal districts are likely to experience high humidity levels over the next seven days. The combination of heat and humidity is expected to make weather conditions increasingly uncomfortable, adding to the overall stress on residents.
Manorama Mohanty, Director of the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre, stated that temperatures are likely to increase further in the coming days. She emphasized that humid conditions would persist in coastal areas, while interior districts would continue to experience heatwave conditions.
The IMD has reiterated its advisory for residents in the affected districts, particularly Bolangir, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Boudh, Kandhamal, and Sonepur, to remain cautious and take preventive steps to cope with the extreme weather.
With the heatwave conditions expected to persist, authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have urged the public to follow safety guidelines to minimize health risks during the ongoing spell of extreme heat.
