Thiruvananthapuram,08 March (H.S.): The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has achieved a historic milestone by recording its highest-ever daily revenue, signalling a major turnaround for the State-run public transport operator.

According to official sources, KSRTC registered a record daily collection of ₹13.02 crore in January, the highest in its history. Of this amount, ₹12.18 crore was generated through ticket revenue, reflecting a significant rise in passenger traffic and improved operational efficiency.

Officials said the achievement marks a strong recovery for the corporation, which had faced financial challenges in the past. They attributed the improved performance to better management practices, enhanced services, and expansion of the fleet.

In a major development, all 93 KSRTC operational units across the State have now become operationally profitable, an indicator of improved financial discipline and efficient administration within the transport corporation.

To strengthen its service network, KSRTC has introduced 538 new buses into its fleet, significantly enhancing connectivity and frequency of services across various routes in Kerala. The addition of new buses has helped improve passenger convenience while boosting the corporation’s revenue generation capacity.

Tourism initiatives undertaken by KSRTC have also shown remarkable growth. The corporation’s tourism projects now generate a monthly revenue of ₹3.23 crore, officials said. These projects have emerged as an important supplementary income source for the transport utility.

KSRTC has also made headlines nationally with innovative transport initiatives. The corporation recently introduced India’s first open-deck electric bus service, further strengthening Kerala’s reputation for adopting sustainable and tourist-friendly mobility solutions.

One of the most popular attractions under this initiative is the ‘Royal View’ double-decker service in Munnar, which offers passengers a panoramic view of the hill station’s scenic landscapes. The service has quickly become a unique travel experience for tourists visiting Kerala.

Officials noted that the improved financial performance demonstrates the renewed confidence in public transport in the State. The latest figures reflect increased passenger patronage as well as the positive impact of administrative reforms and service expansion.
