Kamrup, 06 March (HS): The newly created Chamaria Assembly constituency in Kamrup (Rural) district is emerging as a key political battleground ahead of the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, posing a tough challenge for Congress leader and three-time Chaygaon MLA Rakibuddin Ahmed.
Formed after the recent delimitation by combining parts of the former Boko and Chaygaon constituencies along with Goroimari and Sontali blocks, the seat has attracted strong political interest. While the AGP is reportedly considering former MLA Dr. Kamalakanta Kalita as its candidate, internal competition within the Congress has intensified, with Mahbub Ali also being discussed as a potential nominee.
Several other leaders, including Dr. Shahjahan Ali, former Boko MLA Nandita Das, Jyoti Prasad Das, Gopinath Das and advocate Aman Owadud, are also preparing for the contest, making Chamaria one of the most closely watched constituencies in the upcoming elections.---------
