Guwahati, 06 March (HS): Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president and Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi on Friday alleged that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma sought support from the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections in the state.
He claimed that three AIUDF MLAs—Karim Uddin Barbhuiya, Nizam Uddin Choudhury and Zakir Hussain Laskar—signed the nomination papers of Pramod Boro, president of the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL), who is contesting as the candidate of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
Gogoi said the development contradicts the BJP’s earlier stand against AIUDF and questioned the ruling party’s reliance on the party it had previously criticised. Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia also alleged that the development indicates a tacit understanding between the BJP and AIUDF.----------
