Kolkata, 27 March (H.S.): The weather office has issued a warning of thunderstorms and rain across several districts of West Bengal, with Kalbaishakhi conditions likely to impact both south and north Bengal over the next few days.

Several districts received rainfall on Thursday, bringing a change in weather conditions. Adverse weather also affected flight operations, with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee facing inconvenience while returning to Kolkata.

According to officials, south Bengal is likely to witness thunderstorms with wind speeds of 50–60 kmph in at least five districts on Friday. Kolkata and adjoining areas may experience gusty winds of 40–50 kmph along with lightning.

Rainfall is expected to continue on Saturday in parts of Purulia, Bankura, Jhargram, Paschim Medinipur and West Burdwan, with chances of lightning and hailstorms.

In north Bengal, districts such as Darjeeling and Kalimpong may witness hailstorms, while heavy rainfall is likely in parts of Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar. Wind speeds of 50–60 kmph accompanied by thunderstorms are expected in Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, Cooch Behar and Jalpaiguri.

Meanwhile, North and South Dinajpur and Malda districts are likely to experience thunderstorms with wind speeds of 40–50 kmph.

The Met office said the rainfall is likely to bring down temperatures, offering relief from the prevailing heat. However, people have been advised to remain cautious and avoid venturing out unless necessary.
