West Bengal, 27 March (H.S.): The Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday alleged that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has been “constantly provoking” violence through her public remarks, and urged the Election Commission to intervene.

BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya, in a post on social media platform X, claimed that at a rally in Pandaveswar, Banerjee had asked party workers to arm themselves with “whatever is at home” to take on the opposition. He also alleged that a similar call was made earlier in north Bengal.

Malviya further alleged that the attack in Basanti followed soon after these remarks, claiming that “TMC-linked elements” targeted BJP workers who were campaigning in the area.

He also accused the state police of remaining a “mute spectator” during the incident and said the situation should not be allowed to spiral.

The BJP leader urged the Election Commission to take note of the developments and ensure that “criminal elements” are brought under control.

There was no immediate response from the Trinamool Congress on the allegations.
