Guwahati, 27 March (HS): In a significant boost to the All India United Democratic Front’s (AIUDF) election campaign, party chief Badruddin Ajmal on Friday announced that AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi will visit Assam in early April to campaign for party candidates ahead of the assembly elections.
According to Ajmal, the visit was finalised following a meeting in Delhi between his son, Abdul Rahman Ajmal and Owaisi. He stated that after discussions over dinner, both leaders spoke with him and mutually agreed on the Assam tour, during which at least eight campaign programmes are expected to be organised.
Owaisi had earlier confirmed AIMIM’s support to AIUDF, noting that the decision followed a request from Ajmal. He revealed that Abdul Rahman Ajmal met him at his Delhi residence and that he also held a telephonic conversation with Badruddin Ajmal before finalising the plan.
During his proposed two-day visit to Guwahati, Owaisi is likely to address several public meetings aimed at mobilising support for AIUDF nominees. The move is being viewed as part of a larger strategy to consolidate minority votes in constituencies where such demographics play a decisive role.
The announcement comes amid AIMIM’s expanding outreach in eastern India, including its recent support to Humayun Kabir and his Aam Janata Unnayan Party in West Bengal. Owaisi emphasised that the initiative is intended to strengthen minority leadership and is not restricted to a single election cycle.-----------
