Jorhat, 27 March (HS): Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi on Friday launched a sharp attack on the BJP leadership, alleging internal distrust and accusing the ruling party of failing to address key public concerns such as fuel shortages.
Addressing a gathering, Gogoi claimed that former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi had once cautioned Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to remain wary of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. He alleged that his father had anticipated a similar betrayal, recalling past political developments.
The Congress leader further criticised the BJP’s “double engine government” narrative, stating that despite tall claims, people across Assam are currently facing difficulties due to shortages of petrol, diesel and LPG, forcing them to stand in long queues.
Highlighting the Congress party’s candidate selection, Gogoi said that the party has fielded 13 women candidates in the upcoming elections, providing opportunities to new faces. In contrast, he alleged that the BJP has largely given tickets to former Congress leaders who had defected to the party.
Seeking public support, Gogoi appealed to voters in the Thowra constituency to bless Congress candidate Pallavi Gogoi. He noted his longstanding connection with the people of the constituency and expressed confidence that voters across Thowra and the wider Jorhat region would ensure a decisive victory for the Congress-led opposition alliance..-----------
