Guwahati, 27 March (HS): Fresh controversy erupted in Assam after Badruddin Ajmal allegedly made provocative remarks, including a threat that “Miya will break the Chief Minister’s backbone,” triggering widespread criticism from local residents and political observers.
The statement, attributed to the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief, has been strongly condemned by sections of the public, who termed it inflammatory and divisive. Many locals expressed concern that such rhetoric could disturb communal harmony in the state.
Reacting to the remarks, people cited the stance of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, asserting that Assam runs on governance and rule of law, not on intimidation or pressure from any particular group. “Assam cannot be run by the might of any community,” several residents stated while voicing their disapproval.
Critics also lashed out at Ajmal, describing him as a businessman-turned-politician whose style of politics, they claimed, relies heavily on communal narratives. They further said that such comments have no place in Assam’s socio-political landscape.
The remarks have once again brought the issue of communal rhetoric to the forefront ahead of the upcoming elections, with calls for responsible political discourse growing louder across the state.
