March (HS): In Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, one of the two attackers who carried
out a deadly assault on YouTuber Salim Wastik, who spoke out against certain
evils and fundamentalism prevalent in the Muslim religion, was killed in a
police encounter. A reward of Rs. one lakh had been announced for his arrest.
The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh personally took cognizance of the incident
and ordered the police to take strict action. Two policemen were also shot in
the encounter. Ghaziabad police tracked the attackers after scanning footage
from approximately 150 CCTV cameras over three days.
Ghaziabad Police Commissioner J. Ravinder Gaud
stated that last Friday, two helmet-wearing criminals on a motorcycle slit
Salim Wastik's throat and then stabbed him repeatedly in the stomach, seriously
injuring him. He stated that Ghaziabad police, investigating the case, learned
late Sunday night that the suspects who fatally attacked Salim Wastik had come
to the Loni area to commit another major crime. He stated that based on information,
police began searching for the criminals when they spotted two bike-borne
criminals approaching. He stated that when police signaled the criminals to
stop, they opened fire on the police party with the intent to kill. Police
returned fire. One of the criminals was injured by the gunfire. He was admitted
to a hospital for treatment and later died during treatment. He stated that the
suspect has been identified as Zeeshan (27), a resident of Amroha district. He
added that his accomplice fled the scene.
Following the
incident, Salim, who was seriously injured, was admitted to GTB Hospital in
Delhi. Doctors had been treating him for the past two days. Salim's family
members took him out of GTB Hospital on Saturday night and admitted him to Max
Hospital in Saket, where doctors are currently treating him. Three police teams
were engaged in searching for the attackers in this case. After reviewing
footage from approximately 150 CCTV cameras, the police identified the
helmet-wearing attackers. According to the police, information was received
that both criminals lived in Khoda. Following this, the police announced a
reward of Rs 1 lakh each on them and began searching for them. On Sunday night,
the police killed one of the accused, Zeeshan, a resident of Amroha, in an
encounter. The police are also searching for the remaining accused.
