Guwahati, 02 March (HS): The All Koch Rajbongshi Students’ Union (AKRSU) staged a vehement protest in front of Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan on Monday, pressing for the long-pending demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status for the Koch Rajbongshi community.

Hundreds of AKRSU members gathered outside the party office raising slogans and expressing resentment over what they termed repeated betrayal in the name of granting tribal status. The protesters later submitted a memorandum to the party leadership, urging them not to include any fresh promises regarding ST status in the upcoming election manifesto unless concrete action is ensured.

The student body leaders alleged that the Koch Rajbongshi community has been repeatedly deceived ahead of every election with assurances of tribal recognition, but no substantial progress has been made. They demanded that political parties refrain from making what they described as “false commitments” in the forthcoming Assembly election manifesto.

AKRSU leaders warned that the Koch Rajbongshi community, which has long been awaiting tribal recognition, would respond decisively in the upcoming Assembly elections if the issue continues to be used merely as an electoral promise without implementation.----------
