
Kolkata, 02 March (H.S.) : A Central Reserve Police Force officer deployed for election duty in West Bengal died in Purba Bardhaman district, officials said on Monday. The deceased has been identified as Nagendra Singh, who was posted in the district as part of election deployment and was staying at a temporary camp.
According to sources, Singh suddenly fell ill on Sunday evening and his condition deteriorated rapidly. He was taken to Burdwan Medical College and Hospital at around 9 pm, where he died during treatment. Singh was serving as a Sub-Inspector in the Central Reserve Police Force and was a resident of the Sarai police station area in Vaishali district of Bihar. He was posted with the 215 Battalion of the force in Jamui.
The exact cause of death is yet to be determined. Initial reports indicate that he fell ill at the camp, but authorities are examining whether the death was due to natural causes or any other reason. His family members have been informed about the incident.
Central forces have already been deployed in several parts of the state in view of the upcoming Assembly elections. In Purba Bardhaman, a company of central forces had recently set up camp and begun area familiarisation and route marches.
The incident has created a sense of concern in the area, and officials said a detailed inquiry has been initiated to ascertain the circumstances leading to the officer’s death.
