Chennai, 16 March (H.S.):Senior AIADMK leader and former Tamil Nadu minister K.A. Sengottaiyan on Monday asserted that actor-turned-politician Vijay entered politics with the ambition of becoming Chief Minister and not to occupy a secondary role such as Deputy Chief Minister.
Speaking to reporters at Coimbatore International Airport, Sengottaiyan dismissed reports circulating in political circles that Vijay might accept a Deputy Chief Minister’s position if his party aligns with a larger political alliance in Tamil Nadu ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.
According to Sengottaiyan, Vijay’s entry into politics was driven by a clear vision of leadership and public service. He said the actor had stepped away from his successful film career with the intention of directly serving the people and bringing about political change in the state.
“Vijay has entered public life with the goal of becoming Chief Minister and working for the welfare of the people. When someone joins politics with such a clear objective, there is naturally no question of accepting the position of Deputy Chief Minister,” Sengottaiyan said.
His remarks come at a time when political activity in Tamil Nadu is intensifying ahead of the Assembly elections, with Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), attracting considerable public attention. Speculation had emerged in recent weeks about possible alliances and power-sharing arrangements involving the new political formation.
Sengottaiyan said the enthusiastic response to Vijay’s political meetings across the state indicates that a section of the public is looking for an alternative leadership in Tamil Nadu. He noted that large crowds gathering wherever Vijay appears reflect growing interest in his political message.
The AIADMK leader also criticised the law-and-order situation in the state, alleging that many people, particularly women, feel insecure under the current administration. He claimed that dissatisfaction with the ruling government was increasing in several parts of Tamil Nadu.
Sengottaiyan added that Vijay’s political debut could influence the electoral dynamics in the coming Assembly polls, as his party is preparing to contest across the state with candidates in all 234 constituencies.
