Hyderabad, 16 March (H.S.): Highlighting Telangana’s economic growth and development priorities, Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Monday said the state continues to maintain strong economic momentum with steady growth indicators, while outlining the government’s long-term development vision during his address to the State Legislature.

Delivering his first address at the start of the Budget Session, the Governor stated that Telangana’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) for 2025-26 is projected at around ₹17.82 lakh crore, registering an estimated growth rate of 10.7 percent.

He said Telangana currently contributes nearly 4.99 percent to India’s GDP, while the state’s per capita income has reached about ₹4.18 lakh, reflecting economic expansion and income growth.

Referring to inflation trends, the Governor said the state has maintained relative price stability with inflation levels reported at around 0.2 percent, while noting that India’s overall economic growth remains steady.

Vision Targets for Telangana Economy

The Governor said the state government has set long-term economic targets aligned with India’s 100 years of Independence in 2047, aiming to transform Telangana into a three-trillion-dollar economy, with an intermediate goal of reaching one trillion dollars by 2034.

Political Protests During Address

The Governor’s speech also witnessed protests from opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) members, who raised slogans during references to the policies and achievements of the ruling Congress government.

The session began with the rendition of the Telangana state song “Jaya Jaya He Telangana” and concluded with the national song Vande Mataram, following procedural protocol.

Budget Session Significance

The Governor’s address traditionally outlines the policy direction and governance priorities of the state government ahead of budget discussions. The session is expected to focus on welfare programmes, infrastructure development and economic growth strategies.

With the Budget Session now underway, political exchanges between treasury benches and opposition parties are expected to intensify in the coming days.
