Hyderabad, March 16 (HS): Tension prevailed in Telangana’s Jagtial district on Monday after five students were allegedly denied entry into a private school and suspended for wearing Hanuman malas.
The incident took place at a private school in Metpally town. According to reports, the students were asked not to attend classes for a specified period after they came wearing religious malas as part of a ritual observance.
Following the incident, members of certain organisations gathered near the school and staged a protest, alleging discrimination. Some protesters also reportedly resorted to vandalism on the school premises.
Police personnel from Metpally reached the spot and brought the situation under control. Officials said no formal complaint had been lodged by the school management regarding the alleged vandalism.
Meanwhile, district education authorities intervened in the matter. Jagtial District Education Officer K. Ramu said officials visited the school and examined the issue.
Education department officials stated that the students had not violated any prescribed norms. Following discussions with authorities, the school management revoked the suspension orders.
The Mandal Education Officer has also issued a show-cause notice to the school management seeking an explanation regarding the incident.
Further inquiry into the matter is underway.
