Kolkata, 04 January (H.S.): A Trinamool Congress councillor in Konnagar, Hooghly district, has alleged that he received death threats from criminals. On Saturday night, Bishwarup Chakraborty, the councillor of Ward No. 17 of Konnagar Municipality, accused some miscreants of threatening to kill him and bomb his house. He has filed a complaint at Uttarpara police station.

According to Bishwarup Chakraborty, some miscreants arrived in front of his house on Saturday night and threatened to kill him and throw bombs. He was not at home at the time. His family members informed him about the incident over phone.

The councillor claimed that when he later reviewed the CCTV footage, he saw that some people had arrived in a red car, issued the threats, and then left. Bishwarup alleged that Divyendu Bhattacharya, a close associate of a Trinamool youth leader, might be behind the incident.

After filing a complaint at the police station on Sunday morning, Bishwarup Chakraborty said, “On Saturday night, I was threatened with death at my house. I was not at home at the time. My family members informed me over phone. After watching the CCTV footage, I was able to identify some of the people. They are all criminals. I have filed a complaint at the police station. There have been previous attempts on my life as well.”

However, Divyendu Bhattacharya, against whom the allegations have been made, has completely denied the charges. He said, “These are completely false allegations. This councillor is associated with the BJP, but is wearing the mask of the Trinamool Congress. I was at Serampore Walsh Hospital at that time, where the father of one of our party workers is admitted.”

The BJP has sharply criticized the Trinamool Congress over this entire incident. The police have launched an investigation, and the political atmosphere in the area has once again become tense.
