Sub-Zero Temperatures Grip Kashmir As Cold Wave Persists Across J&K and Ladakh, Gulmarg Coldest at -8.8°C


Srinagar, 05 January (H.S.): Cold wave conditions continued to prevail across Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh as sub-zero minimum temperatures were recorded at several places, particularly in the Kashmir region, during the last night.

In Kashmir Valley, Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of minus 3.6 degrees Celsius, while Qazigund registered minus 2.0 degrees and Pahalgam recorded minus 4.8 degrees Celsius. Gulmarg, the famous ski resort, was the coldest place in the Valley at minus 8.8 degrees Celsius, data compiled by independent weather channel Kashmir Weather.

Other places including Kupwara (-1.8°C), Kokernag (-1.2°C), Pampore (-2.5°C), Awantipora (-3.2°C), Budgam (-3.5°C), Anantnag (-3.2°C), Bandipora (-1.3°C), Pulwama (-4.2°C), Shopian (-5.6°C) and Zethan Rafiabad (-3.5°C) also witnessed freezing night temperatures. Baramulla recorded a comparatively higher minimum of minus 0.7 degrees Celsius, while data for Kulgam, Ganderbal and Sonamarg was not available.

In the Jammu region, temperatures remained comparatively higher, with Jammu city recording a minimum of 8.7 degrees Celsius and Jammu Airport 11.1 degrees Celsius. Banihal recorded minus 1.3 degrees, Bhaderwah minus 2.1 degrees, while Batote and Ramban both recorded 2.1 and 2.7 degrees Celsius respectively.

Katra registered 5.6 degrees, Kathua 8.4 degrees, Udhampur 6.0 degrees, Rajouri 1.6 degrees, Kishtwar 2.3 degrees, Reasi 8.3 degrees and Doda 2.7 degrees Celsius. Temperature data for Samba and Poonch was not available.

Meanwhile, Ladakh region continued to reel under intense cold conditions, with Leh recording a minimum temperature of minus 9.6 degrees Celsius. Kargil recorded minus 8.4 degrees, while Nubra Valley registered minus 7.5 degrees Celsius.
